The Archive of Spatial Knowledge is a digital platform and a spatial intervention addressing issues of spatial justice. It is dedicated to collecting and preserving the spatial and social memory of individuals who were forcefully displaced or denied representation in their current places of residence. The plat- form creates a virtual layer of knowledge overlaid on the
physical landscape allowing the narratives pushed out of these spaces to persist, rendering them impervious to efforts of erasure.
The archive’s main tool is the mobile application - Space Reader. It allows contributors to attach written memories of their former communities and living environments to the
coordinates of the original places in a virtual layer. This can be done while being physically present on location or remotely if the area is not accessible. Using the same mobile tool, the viewers of the archive can navigate to the locations of these records and discover the written accounts. This enables them to juxtapose the hidden stories with the reality of the physical spaces.
The archive’s content can be accessed on the original locations and remotely using the Space Reader mobile application, on the website and on the defensive barricades of the archive’s physical installation.
Archive’s mobile tool - Space Reader is available for iOS and Android devices
